This is an interesting anchorage, because at low tide, the entrance dries out… Like no water.

Tides here in the PNW are significant. Often swings of 14+ feet. For our sailboat, we need 6.5’ of water under the boat, but we always say 7’ to give us a buffer, but honestly anything under 10’ is kinda creepy.

Soooo we made our way in here at high tide with 11’ under the boat and we can’t leave until we time out another high tide. (We’ll head out tomorrow morning)

Boating presents different situations all the time. We’ve been traveling with 6 other boats, and 3 of them decided they weren’t comfortable coming in here to Roscoe Bay. This is reality. Everyone has different comfort levels, different skill sets, different experiences ‘under their belt’.

This isn’t our first time here. Brian is excited it’s Saturday and to to go for the hike here since he missed it last time.

We went for a hike and I found so many different kinds of mushrooms including oysters and chanterelles for dinner!!

Ugh our stern tie didn’t go great. Toward the end, brian had cranked on the line, and it slapped my headset off my head and into the drink!! Ugh. I rinsed it with fresh water and I hope it will be ok. We’ll find out soon enough. We use those headsets to communicate with each other while we dock and anchor. We also have hand signals too, but sentances can go a lot further, because so often something werid happens that you dont have a convient hand signal for.

We went for a short hike and I found so many different kinds of mushrooms including chanterelles for dinner!!

Our friends accidentally beached their dinghy because of the crazy tide swing here. We did too, but we have wheels on our dinghey and it’s much lighter weight with our electric outboard. We gave them a ride back to their boat, and they’ll have to wait until evening to get their dinghey.

The next day… Brian went for a hike with our friends. I stayed back because i did something in the evening to hurt my back. I also wanted some alone time on the boat. I cleaned up the boat, did some writing, and fixed the stove burner (it had been letting out the smallest amout of propane lately) Brian says it’s never worked as good as it does now. Great! Proud of myself for just trying something… and it worked! He and Maui had a strenuous hike. it was 5 miles total. They were rewarded with a great view. On the way back down, he plucked some mushrooms for me, and I’m pretty sure they are Turkey Tail!

When they got back to the boat, Maui jumped from the dinghey to the boat and fell in! haha! She hates swimming. Brain said the look on her face was complete terror. Luckily she had her harness on, and brian scooped her up out of the water. I rinsed her off with fresh water and gave a 1/2 bath. hahaha, she only seems to fall in during adventures with Dad.

We went to happy hour, and 2 more exciting things happened!

first… Maui went pee on our friends doggy grass pad on their boat! She was looking into the dinghey letting us know, like hey, I need to go potty. For fun, we walked her over to the grass pad, said go potty. she sniffed for just a bit, and squatted down. GOOD GIRL MAUI!!! We gave her lots of love and more importantly treats.

Brian ALMOST lost his Garmin watch to the drink. He was getting in the dinghey and his sunglasses fell off his head, he reached down to grab them out of the water, and the pin on his watch caught on the dinghey lip and came out, causing his watch strap to come undone. He quickly changed efforts to saving his very expensive watch, and was able to GET IT! oh my gosh!

We left and took maui to shore for her night/final potty, but it was a bit early at 7:30. We ate dinner, and I’ve been writing. around 10 maui signaled she needed to go potty. dangit! it’s dark. We didn’t want to take her to shore, so Brian had the great idea to offer the grass pad. She quickly went on the grass pad!!! YAY!!! GOOD GIRL!!! So many treats again.

Time for Bed! We’ll leave here around 11 am for high tide to get out of there tomorrow. And we’ll go to Squirrel Cove.
